This project was a much larger undertaking than I originally had planned. A lot of planning, communication and details had to be done. Lists of supplies, meetings, dates and finances were all figured out.

Finishing the room gave me a sense of accomplishment. I am happy that I was able to give back to such a wonderful organization and complete my senior project with pride. Fellowship Farm was very appreciative and featured the room in their bulletin and on the website.
This project kicked off the beginning of a series completed for different high schools in the area. It feels good to start something positive in this way. Since then, a Harriet Tubman room has been created, amongst other rooms worked on by other high school seniors.

I had many people help me renovate this room. My mother Brenda, brother Rob, and friends Lisa, Ralph and Keith all participated in the transformation process. The first step was cleaning. The floors also had to be covered so the paint would not ruin the carpeting. The paneling (walls) were sanded in order to allow the paint to adhere properly. After the sanding, the walls were wiped down so that the dust would not be swept up in the paint. The walls were painted. The beds that were in pieces then had to be fixed. The quote was painted on the wall, along with the mirrors and door being painted. Artwork was created specifically for the room along with a poster of Gandhi's biography. That was hung. An Indian inspired area rug was donated by Gretchen Lee, member of Cornerstone of the Arts and one of my mentors throughout this process. Lamps were purchased and their shades were spray painted to match the room. The beds were made as the final touch.

To begin the transformation process, measurements had to be taken of the room. Each image was taken in order to get a better idea of where to place the new additions and where to move the existing pieces. The measurements were also used for this purpose. Calculating dimensions helped me to decide what to purchase for the room and what changes were possible. This is all involved in the brainstorming.

What attracted me to Fellowship Farm was the complete devotion that is given to educating the public on diversity. It's an organization based on bringing cultures together, helping people to accept one another and embrace their differences.

Gandhi was a spiritual leader that was loved and respected by many. Besides that, he was a peaceful activist, proving that real change could be made without weapons or mass destruction. I feel that today we should really take a look, studying his life and understanding how he living in this manner could end in success, without losing any lives. He is my inspiration and in my opinion, should be someone we all aspire to live and be more like.
